Why density is part of the estimate
Weight is calculated from volume multiplied by density. Dimensions provide volume; alloy family provides the approximate density value.
| Alloy family | Typical estimate | Use note |
|---|---|---|
| 1xxx / 3xxx | About 2.70 g/cm3 | Common sheet estimate |
| 5xxx | About 2.66 to 2.68 g/cm3 | Marine and corrosion-resistant alloys |
| 6xxx / 7xxx | About 2.70 to 2.81 g/cm3 | Structural and high-strength alloys |
Estimate vs actual packed weight
The calculator estimates metal weight only. Final shipping weight includes packaging, pallets, moisture protection, edge protection and possible cutting loss.
