The fundamental formula is Weight = Volume x Density. Below are the specific volume formulas for each shape.

Sheet / Plate

W = T x W x L x p / 1,000,000

Where T = thickness (mm), W = width (mm), L = length (mm), p = density (g/cm3). Result in kg.

Round Bar

W = pi/4 x D2 x L x p / 1,000,000

Where D = diameter (mm), L = length (mm), p = density (g/cm3). pi/4 = 0.7854. Result in kg.

Square Bar

W = S2 x L x p / 1,000,000

Where S = side length (mm), L = length (mm), p = density (g/cm3). Result in kg.

Flat Bar

W = T x W x L x p / 1,000,000

Where T = thickness (mm), W = width (mm), L = length (mm), p = density (g/cm3). Same as sheet formula.

Circle / Disc

W = pi/4 x D2 x T x p / 1,000,000

Weight Calculator FAQ

This calculator uses typical density values for the aluminum grades shown in the current product range. Results are theoretical weights based on nominal dimensions. Actual delivered weight can vary with manufacturing tolerances, thickness variation and the confirmed alloy/temper. Use the mill test certificate and final specification for commercial confirmation.
Aluminum alloys contain different alloying elements (copper, magnesium, zinc, manganese, silicon) in varying proportions. Each element has its own atomic weight and crystal structure, which affects the overall density of the alloy. For example, 7075 contains 5-6% zinc and 2-3% magnesium, making it denser (2.81 g/cm3) than pure aluminum (2.70 g/cm3). Conversely, 5083 with its magnesium content is slightly lighter (2.66 g/cm3). The difference between the lightest and heaviest common alloys is about 6%.
1 metric ton = 1,000 kg. To estimate the number of sheets per ton, simply divide 1,000 by the weight per piece shown in the calculator. For example, if one sheet of 2mm x 1220mm x 2440mm 5052 aluminum weighs 15.97 kg, then one metric ton contains approximately 62 sheets (1000 / 15.97 = 62.6). This is useful for calculating container loads and order quantities. Our minimum order quantity is 1 metric ton for most alloys and sizes.
