Start with the mill test certificate
The mill test certificate should show alloy, temper, chemical composition and mechanical properties. It should match the order description and product batch.
Documents commonly requested
- Mill test certificate or material test certificate
- Chemical composition and mechanical property report
- Dimension inspection record where required
- Surface and packing photos before shipment
- Classification certificate for marine material when applicable
Match documents to the purchase order
Many quality issues begin with unclear purchase wording. The PO should state alloy, temper, size, tolerance, standard, surface requirement, quantity and packaging requirement.
Documents are most useful when requested before production or dispatch, not after the container has shipped.
